#WakeUpWorld is a campaign full of The Save Movement vigils around the world where activists bring non vegan or non activist friends and family to a vigil. The Save Movement holds vigils for animals at slaughterhouses where activists bear witness to them in their final moments.
Wake Up World: Holiday Edition is the last two weeks of December where we ask individuals to ask nonvegan friends and family to come to a vigil and sign up for Veganuary: This is a time of the year to get together as families. Let us not destroy other families.

Jo-Anne McArthur and Kelly Guerin joined us for our December 6 vigil. Jo-Anne reports:
”Today team We Animals was filming and photographing with The Save Movement at Fearmans ‘Pork.’ Ten thousand pigs a day are killed at this slaughterhouse. The trucks coming through the gates seemed endless. Here are a few of the victims I met today. These are totally senseless, needless deaths at the ends of lives of incarceration and deprivation. I do not exaggerate. I have been to these places. And they need to close down, existing in history books only.”

We’re over 5,000 signatures. Please help us get to 7,500!
“Toronto Pig Save activists have been holding vigils at Fearmans slaughterhouse for several years and have raised safety concerns with Fearmans regarding aggressive truck drivers. Our requests have been ignored. We call on Michael Latifi CEO of Sofina Foods and Fearmans slaughterhouse to set up a Safety Agreement Now to enable us to safely bear witness at our weekly vigils.”

Michael Latifi: Stop endangering activists! Negotiate a safety agreement at Fearmans now!

Okanagan Animal Save report from their vigil at Rocana Meats slaughter plant in Salmon Arm, BC:
“The pig flesh on your plates came from 6-month-old piglets. They suffered immensely and fought for their lives. These individuals are as intelligent as a toddler and smarter than dogs. How would you feel, and what would you do, if they were dogs in that semi-truck being electrically prodded towards their execution?”

Regina Pig Save members were out at Thunder Creek in Moose Jaw speaking up for the animals.

Climate Save Movement‘s core message is: Help save the planet by going vegan and becoming active.

Please sign and share our petition:
Brazil’s newly elected president plans to industrialize the Amazon and open it to more animal agriculture and mining. Bolsonaro remains intent on opening up the Amazon to the ranchers, miners and logging companies that supported his campaign and plans to eliminate Brazil’s Ministry of Environment. Bolsonaro plans to build a highway through the rainforest, which is also its road to freedom.
The environmental and indigenous rights group Amazon Watch has described Bolsonaro’s plan as reckless, saying it will bring untold destruction to the planet’s largest rainforest and threatens the very existence of indigenous peoples and diverse species who call the rainforest home. If these plans go forward, a vital carbon sink would be removed which jeopardizes the global climate.
Petition: Stop Bolsonaro from destroying the Amazon!

Let’s mobilize to fight climate change
The headlines tell us what’s happening, but not what to do about it.
The Save Movement is working to set up a Climate Vegan working group to produce a plan of action and to launch campaigns to address this most urgent of disasters. We will involve our 560+ chapters in 60 countries around the world. Climate change is happening and it is absolutely critical that we mobilize to fight it before it’s too late.
We need all the help we can get. Please join us!

Weekly vigils and outreach with Toronto-area SavesToronto Pig Save has a firm commitment to hold at least three vigils or other vegan outreach events per week. We currently hold a Pig Save vigil in Burlington together with Cow Save, Fish Save and Chicken Save vigils in Toronto, as well as Fur Animal Save events in the colder months. We encourage everyone to attend a vigil. The more people who attend, the harder it is for society to ignore our protests of the abhorrent exploitation and cruelty to animals. Attending vigils is a daunting, traumatic, but empowering experience. Please join us. Scroll down for vigil schedule.

Leo Tolstoy defines the duty to bear witness as: “When the suffering of another creature causes you to feel pain, do not submit to the initial desire to flee from the suffering one, but on the contrary, come closer, as close as you can to him who suffers, and try to help him.”

“We witnessed 3 truck arrivals and we managed to stop 2 trucks. Looking into the eyes of these cows was heartbreaking, watching the disconnection of truck drivers, producers and staff was heartbreaking. Watching the animals being forced into holding pens with no shade in today’s heat, crammed so tightly that some would have no way to access water, was heartbreaking. We are so proud to be apart of the Save Movement. All of us together around the world will rise and we will be the change these innocent and sweet animals need so desperately.”

“Today we witnessed six trucks deliver approximately 1,000 pigs to the local slaughterhouse. Here they will be gassed and their throats cut open, chopped up into pieces and sent around the globe. If this were dog, or cat or dolphin there would be outrage. But there is a short list of animals who are discriminated against while the rest are protected.”

Toronto Pig Save started in December 2010, with a promise to the pigs of doing a minimum of three vigils and vegan outreach events each week, all year round. We bear witness as a community of pigs, cows, chickens and other farmed animal victims in slaughterhouse trucks. The animals want us to be present and, with the most pleading eyes, ask for our help when we see them through the portholes of transport trucks. Just as if we were in those horrid trucks, we would want the whole community to be there fighting for our freedom, liberation, rights, and equality. In a way, we are there. All life is one and, “when (wo)men wish to harm others, they really do evil to themselves,” Leo Tolstoy said in his animal rights story “Esarhaddon, King of Assyria”. It’s our positive duty and obligation to act in the present to try to stop the most egregious injustices before us.
“When the suffering of another creature causes you to feel pain, do not submit to the initial desire to flee from the suffering one, but on the contrary, come closer, as close as you can to her who suffers, and try to help her.” – Leo Tolstoy
In seven years, The Save Movement has grown to over 560 Save groups around the world. Our dream is to have regular vigils at every slaughter plant worldwide. We regularly give seed money to new Save groups and require funds for literature, posters, subway ad campaigns ( and vegan outreach events.
