Please join us! This is a perfect location and event to do vegan outreach. We were there last year and it was amazing! We will be giving out FREE vegan food samples, vegan literature and paying people $5 cash to watch an 8 minute Animal Equality virtual reality documentary of a pig’s life from birth to slaughter that really makes videos reconsider their ‘food’ choices.

Climate Vegan‘s core message is: Help save the planet by going vegan and becoming active.

Let’s mobilize to fight climate change
As the world heats up from human-caused climate change, record-setting fires rage across the planet.
The Independent: Earth at risk of entering ‘hothouse’ state from which there is no return, scientists warn

The headlines tell us what’s happening, but not what to do about it.
The Save Movement is working to set up a Climate Vegan working group to produce a plan of action and to launch campaigns to address this most urgent of disasters. We will involve our almost 450 chapters around the world. Climate change is happening and it is absolutely critical that we mobilize to fight it before it’s too late.
We need all the help we can get. Please join us!

The Climate Vegan plan of action could include campaigns such as:
1. Screenings of films such as Cowspiracy at universities and other fertile grounds.
2. Regular demonstrations such as the yearly Earth Day chalking and leafletting event.
3. Marches to draw the public’s attention
4. A long march such as Toronto to Ottawa (400 kilometers) to engage the political establishment
5. Reforestation programs
6. Advertising campaigns
7. Training program, including a guidebook

Wake up World – Toronto
Please join us on August 27 from 8 AM – 11 PM. #wakeupworld is a week full of The Save Movement vigils around the world where activists bring nonvegan or nonactivist friends and family to a vigil from August 25-31. August 28th is also Tolstoy’s birthday and World Save Day and the Official March for Animal Rights is on August 25th (or September 1st) so it’s a good opportunity to get more people involved. Save groups can do a full week of vigils or just an event during this particular week.

12:00-5:00 vigil for cows

Weekly vigils and outreach with Toronto-area SavesToronto Pig Save has a firm commitment to hold at least three vigils or other vegan outreach events per week. We currently hold a Pig Save vigil in Burlington together with Cow Save and Chicken Save vigils in Toronto. We encourage everyone to attend a vigil. The more people who attend, the harder it is for society to ignore our protests of the abhorrent exploitation and cruelty to animals. Attending vigils is a daunting, traumatic, but empowering experience. Please join us. Scroll down for vigil schedule.

Leo Tolstoy defines the duty to bear witness as: “When the suffering of another creature causes you to feel pain, do not submit to the initial desire to flee from the suffering one, but on the contrary, come closer, as close as you can to him who suffers, and try to help him.” – from A Calendar of Wisdom

Journey of No Hope
Zagreb Animal Save report from their vigil against live transport:
“On July 31 2018 we witnessed the departure of bulls from the port of Koper, which arrived there on a truck from Hungary. Then our colleagues from Israel witnessed their arrival in Ahdod on August 8 2018. Can you imagine how it is to travel on a hot day like this where the temperatures rise above 40°C? Can you imagine standing on your feet for days, and when you try to take a rest, you are met with electroshock? Can you imagine living in your own feces and vomit for days at temperatures like this?
Standing proudly with Israel Against Live Shipments, Animals International, Celje Animal Save, The Save Movement.”

5-Day Vigil and Fast
From August 5 to 9, Barcelona Animal Save held a vigil and fast fro the animals at the Sabadell slaughter plant. They saw great attendance.

On the last day, this baby fell off a tuck and was rescued. Named Ahimsa, this baby has found a home at El Hogar Animal Sanctuary.

Maria Tien-Du Toit, Save organizer in the Netherlands, talks about the amazing growth that she and others are helping to achieve in her country:

“In recent months The Save Movement has grown considerably in the Netherlands. In the beginning of 2018 we still had only one group, Boxtel Pig Save, and now we have 13! We have also had considerable media coverage – both on traditional and social media. This past week we had a full page (page 3!) with photographs, in one of the most respected national newspapers in the Netherlands. We have also had interviews with numerous local newspapers, a live radio segment and an appearance on a local TV channel. One aspect that is very special about Save Movement the Netherlands is that we reach out to slaughterhouse directors before our first vigil. We explain what we aim to do and ask if they are open to discussing the possibility of working with us. Not all slaughterhouses are interested in communicating with us, but quite a few are open to coming to some sort of agreement with us. This has led to arrangements where we are allowed on slaughterhouse grounds, get really close to the animals, give them water, interact with, film and photograph them. The video’s, livestreams and photo’s we have made at these vigils have been immensely powerful and we have created a number of posts that have gone viral. We aim to reach 20 groups by the end of the year.”

“We got a full page in one of the Netherlands’ most respected national newspapers, on page 3! They are starting to notice us “

Greeley Cow Save report from their August 10 vigil at the JBS slaughter plant:
“Another powerful and positive vigil at JBS slaughterhouse in Greeley on Friday. We witnessed hundreds of Holstein cows spending their last hours in hot death trucks before they will be violently killed, while they are still conscious. We witnessed THEIR skins folded neatly in a pile while still tainted with their blood; the same blood that runs in our veins. We witnessed a disturbing reality for animals that is unnecessary and evil.”

The Save Movement West Coast Convergence
For the first time in history, Save groups from far and wide will unite for animals, learn about love-based activism, and send the message to the world that animals’ lives are their right. We will be coming together to make friends, learn new skills, march, and bear witness.
Right on the heels of The Official Animal Rights March L.A. 2018, Convergence is an event-filled weekend you won’t want to miss!

Toronto Pig Save started in December 2010, with a promise to the pigs of doing a minimum of three vigils and vegan outreach events each week, all year round. We bear witness as a community of pigs, cows, chickens and other farmed animal victims in slaughterhouse trucks. The animals want us to be present and, with the most pleading eyes, ask for our help when we see them through the portholes of transport trucks. Just as if we were in those horrid trucks, we would want the whole community to be there fighting for our freedom, liberation, rights, and equality. In a way, we are there. All life is one and, “when (wo)men wish to harm others, they really do evil to themselves,” Leo Tolstoy said in his animal rights story “Esarhaddon, King of Assyria”. It’s our positive duty and obligation to act in the present to try to stop the most egregious injustices before us.
“When the suffering of another creature causes you to feel pain, do not submit to the initial desire to flee from the suffering one, but on the contrary, come closer, as close as you can to her who suffers, and try to help her.” – Leo Tolstoy
In seven years, The Save Movement has grown to over 400 Save groups around the world. Our dream is to have regular vigils at every slaughter plant worldwide. We regularly give seed money to new Save groups and require funds for literature, posters, subway ad campaigns ( and vegan outreach events.
Make animal liberation your priority in life! Think of 10 kind things you can do each day and encourage your friends to do the same! Join us and participate in our weekly vigils, start a Save group in your community, and be a regular donor.
